Call 811 before you dig

Underground gas, electric, water and internet lines can be just inches below the surface.

How it works

  1. Call 811 or use your state's online request a few business days before you dig
  2. Utility companies mark their lines with paint or flags
  3. Dig carefully by hand near the marks

Planting a tree, setting fence posts or installing a mailbox can all hit a line.
